Henderson, D. (2015). Game Theory [Slides]. Slide Player. https://slideplayer.com/slide/5986018/
The source is a slide deck of a presentation from a class on game theory. The presentation begins by defining game theory and the essential features of the game, there are a finite number or players and actions, they know what they can and can’t do and what they will gain, and the choice of their opponent has an impact on their gains. The main focus of the presentation is on the different strategies that arise in games, mainly focusing on the mixed strategies or when players do not have one strategy that wins 100 percent of the time. Most of these strategies involved picking a particular option a percentage of the time, and only differed in the ways that the optimal balance of the choices was determined. Finally, the presentation talked about the limitations of game theory, mainly that it is a model so it only shows a prediction of human behavior, and there are often factors such as risk or uncertainty that affects the options the individuals will chose.
- It was useful for me to be reminded that game theory is just creating models of behavior. In my game design program at college, we constantly talked about how humans are reasonable instead of rational. We do not always do the most optimal thing, even if we know it is more optimal or most efficient
- Seeing the different strategies described as well as the way that the strategies were reached was useful. Most other sources I found would only discuss a handful of games so would only bring up a single strategy for the games rather than looking at the different types of strategies that can arise.
