Coskun, B. (2019, February 11). Game Theory for Life [Video]. TED Talks. https://www.ted.com/talks/bulent_coskun_game_theory_for_life
This is a TED talk on game theory, looking particularly at strategic decisions, which rely on both the player and opponent’s choices. The video was primarily an overview of what game theory is, giving a couple of concrete examples at the end, some of which weren’t specified in other sources, like countries attitudes towards global warming, the tragedy of the commons and cryptocurrency.
- Again, the source worked to emphasize that game theory is about explaining optimal or “smart” strategies in individuals actions. A majority of the talk was focused on describing how the smart strategy was calculated when considering what your opponent was likely to do.
- The perspective on what in the world can be looked at using the lenses of game theory was interesting. Usually the other sources have tended to be focused on mainly economic or general scenarios where game theory can be applied
The resource provides some interesting examples of places where game theory can be applied. It is primarily a summary of the concept though, and doesn’t go into too much detail of the different strategies, but it does provide a solid, concrete example of a prisoner’s dilemma game
